I have been stalking some of the comms but not really participating. Today I decided to drag myself out of bed and come to campus and see what the world has been up to in my absence. Turns out, it was still in the state that I left it in.
Since the last time I was here, I have been attending seminars. I am currently working at the Centre for Research in Race and Identity on campus as a student researcher. We are doing all sorts of projects currently on the Black Consciouness Movement and Gender Based Violence. We actually had some people working in the field of GBV come to talk to us and the centre. one of them was a magistrate and she had just come from work. She told us about some of the cases that she has dealt with in order to prepare us for what we would face in the focus groups that we would be having as part of our research. After all her years in her field and having to deal with what she has had to deal with, she cried while she was talking. She is maybe in her late 50's early 60's, and she was still traumatized by what she was hearing everyday. If she is like that, how are we student researchers going to be? The centre has warned us that therapy would be important for us during and after the project.
I am going to be paying attention though because I think that what I learn here will be really important since I am doing my Maters in sexual violence against men.
I have mostly shut myself off from the world. Been just listening to music and I have started reading again after a long time. the series that I am currently reading is the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. The first book has been okay and I haven't heard anything negative about the series yet. I hope I won't. I hope I won't come across anything while I am reading that will piss me off either.
I also have been given the resposibilty of talking to my brother about sex. Yay for me...
The only good news that I have is that my boyfriend downloaded Furin Kazan for me on the sly. I am nearly done after just two days of marathoning it.
So basically, the world is still a horrible place and I need to leave ASAP. Virgin better get that arline of theirs running...
Here is some music I'm listening to...
